Brazil highlights endometriosis diagnosis and late‑age pregnancy

Endometriosis affects roughly 10 % of women of reproductive age in Brazil and is a leading cause of chronic pelvic pain. Health experts advise women to watch for worsening menstrual cramps, pain during intercourse, and bowel or urinary changes, as early diagnosis can preserve fertility.

Specialists say pregnancy remains possible after age 40 even with endometriosis, though it carries higher risk. Dr. César Patez notes, “Endometriosis can reduce fertility, but it does not prevent all women from becoming pregnant.” Dr. Paulo Noronha adds, “After 40, ovarian reserve drops significantly; when endometriosis is present we evaluate the patient carefully and tailor treatment.” While older mothers face increased chances of hypertension, gestational diabetes and pre‑term birth, attentive prenatal care can mitigate complications.

The coverage underscores growing awareness in Brazil of both diagnosing endometriosis early and managing fertility for women seeking pregnancy later in life.
