Brazil's Federal District funds LED sports lighting and Cerrado restoration projects
The Governo do Distrito Federal (GDF) has allocated about R$ 264,000 to install LED luminaires at two Ceilândia sports sites – the Arena Guariroba Beach Soccer and the synthetic field of EQNM 21/23 – enabling safe night‑time use. Governor Celina Leão visited the illuminated venues, highlighting the benefits for community safety, especially for women, and for athletes of all ages.
In a separate initiative, the GDF announced a R$ 3.714 million investment for the second phase of the "Recupera Cerrado II" program, carried out with the civil‑society organization Instituto Rede Terra. The project will plant 20,000 native trees, sow 2.6 tonnes of native seeds over 218 hectares, and maintain previously restored areas to reduce urban heat islands, improve air humidity, protect water quality and support native fauna in the Cerrado biome surrounding Lake Paranoá.
