Brazil's Federal District offers free public transport on Sundays and holidays

The Federal District of Brazil expanded its "Vai de Graça" program, which began in March 2025, to provide completely free public‑transport travel on all Sundays and public holidays. The benefit applies to every mode – buses, BRT, micro‑buses, the Zebrinha shuttle and the metro – across both urban and rural lines, with no registration required and no limit on the number of rides per day.

Passengers simply validate a Mobilidade, vale‑transporte or bank card at the turnstile, or are assisted by the conductor if they have no card. The government reports more than 49.6 million validator accesses since launch, and a rise of over 70 % in Sunday and holiday trips, indicating increased mobility especially for lower‑income families. Issues can be reported to the Federal District Ombudsman.
