Inmet issues low‑humidity alerts for 13 Brazilian states
The Instituto Nacional de Meteorologia (Inmet) issued an orange‑level alert of danger for low humidity on 31 July 2026, covering about 501 municipalities across 13 Brazilian states, including Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Pará, Goiás, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí, Bahia, the Federal District and others. The alert expects relative humidity between 12 % and 20 % and warns of heightened risk of forest fires and health impacts such as skin dryness and respiratory irritation.
A yellow‑level alert of potential danger was also released for a broader area, with humidity expected between 20 % and 30 %. Temperatures in the central‑north region may reach up to 40 °C, intensifying the dry conditions. In addition to humidity alerts, Inmet placed several states—including Alagoas and Bahia—under vendaval (wind) warnings, forecasting gusts of up to 60 km/h.
Local forecasts for cities such as Goiânia, the Federal District, Campo Grande, Uberaba and others reported humidity values as low as 16‑20 % and daytime temperatures around 33‑35 °C. Authorities advised the public to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest hours, use sun protection and avoid open fires or activities that could spark wildfires.
