Brazil police seize over 3 tonnes of marijuana in nationwide drug busts
Police operations across Brazil intercepted large drug shipments in several states. In Minas Gerais, the Federal Highway Police and the Military Highway Police seized more than 3 000 kg of marijuana, along with illegal electronics and anabolic steroids, after stopping a truck on BR‑262 near Bom Despacho. In Mato Grosso do Sul, a routine traffic stop on BR‑262 uncovered 302 kg of cocaine and 19 kg of hashish hidden inside electronic equipment destined for São Paulo. In Paraná, a joint police raid in Ponta Grossa seized roughly 167 kg of marijuana, 2.7 kg of hashish, 1.1 kg of skunk, 344 g of LSD and related paraphernalia, arresting three suspects. Additional seizures included over 660 kg of marijuana on river vessels in the Amazon, more than 600 kg on a boat in Amazonas, and multiple arrests of passengers with cannabis on intercity buses in Chapadão do Sul and other locales.
Separately, Portuguese authorities reported that a group of childhood friends had come to dominate the drug trade in Lisbon, highlighting the trans‑national nature of trafficking networks.
