Brazil's Federal Police extradite drug convict and bust illegal arms fraud in Minas Gerais
On 2 July 2024 Brazil's Federal Police extradited a 24‑year‑old from Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais, who had been convicted of drug trafficking and sentenced to more than two years in prison. After an Interpol red notice and international cooperation, he was returned to Brazil and placed in a provisional detention centre in Belo Horizonte.
The same day, the Integrated Crime‑Fighting Force of Minas Gerais (FICCO/MG) carried out Operation Arsenal Oculto in Campina Verde, seizing eight firearms – four restricted – ammunition, falsified documents and electronic equipment. The operation targeted a scheme that used forged paperwork to obtain collector and shooter certificates and to traffic weapons throughout the region. The suspect faces charges of illegal possession of firearms, fraud, and document falsification.
