Brazil Federal Police investigate election crimes and leadership leaks

The Brazilian Federal Police (PF) have reported seizing R$ 51.6 million in assets related to electoral crimes in 2026, including approximately R$ 31.6 million in cash. As of October 21, the institution has opened 1,538 inquiries and has 2,429 ongoing investigations regarding electoral offenses, including cases of political violence based on gender and race, as well as digital crimes involving artificial intelligence.

Separately, the Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has opened a criminal investigation into the Director-General of the Federal Police, Andrei Rodrigues. The probe examines whether Rodrigues improperly disclosed confidential information from 'Operation Sem Desconto'—which investigates social security fraud—during a public interview. The investigation specifically looks into statements regarding the involvement of a union linked to Frei Chico, the brother of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

In another matter, the PF is investigating whether former Abin operations director Paulo Maurício Fortunato received US$ 180,000 from an attorney close to Flávio Bolsonaro. The investigation follows the discovery of cloud-based notes linking Fortunato to the specified amount and terms such as 'intelligence officer'.
