Brazil's Federal Public Ministry joins U.S. workshop on Iran
The Brazilian Federal Public Ministry (MPF) has designated Prosecutor Lucas de Morais Gualtieri to participate in a United States government workshop titled “Combating Iran and its Representatives in the Americas.” The event is scheduled to take place in Paraguay.
According to Ordinance PGR/MPF No. 559, issued by Vice-Prosecutor General Hindenburgo Chateaubriand Pereira Diniz Filho, the United States government will cover all costs for the Brazilian official, including airfare, lodging, and meals.
Critics argue that this participation constitutes an unconstitutional move, as the authority to declare war or engage in international conflicts rests solely with the President of the Republic, subject to Congressional approval. The move is viewed by some as an alignment with the U.S. and Israel in their ongoing conflict with Iran, potentially complicating Brazil's diplomatic relations with Tehran.
