Brazil's FGTS to distribute ~R$13 billion profit to 138 million workers
On 28 July 2026 the Council Curator of the Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço (FGTS) will vote on a proposal to allocate roughly R$13 billion of the fund’s 2025 profit to workers. The plan would benefit about 138 million people who held an active or inactive FGTS account balance as of 31 December 2025. If approved, Caixa Econômica Federal will credit the amounts directly to each beneficiary’s linked FGTS account, with no action required by the worker.
The credit per worker is calculated by multiplying the December‑2025 account balance by an index of 0.01868341, a figure set out in the council’s proposal. The distribution represents roughly 90 % of the FGTS’s total profit of about R$14.7 billion for the year and complies with Law 13.446/17 and a Supreme Court ruling that the fund’s remuneration must at least match inflation. Recipients can check the deposited amounts through the FGTS mobile app, the Caixa internet‑banking portal, or by visiting a Caixa branch. The funds may be withdrawn only in situations prescribed by Law 8.036/90, such as home‑purchase financing, calamities, serious illness, or termination without cause.
