Brazil's FGTS birthday withdrawal opens for August-born workers

Workers in Brazil who were born in August and have opted for the FGTS "saque-aniversário" (birthday withdrawal) can now withdraw a portion of their fund balance. The withdrawal window opened on 3 August and remains available until 30 October 2026. The same system, managed by Caixa Econômica Federal, was restored after a brief maintenance outage, allowing users to consult balances and request transfers.

The program also sets deadlines for other birth‑months: June‑born workers must withdraw by 31 August, and July‑born workers by 30 September, after which any unclaimed amount returns to the FGTS account. The amount released varies with the balance – up to 50 % for balances up to R$ 500, and 5 % plus R$ 2 900 for balances above R$ 20 000. Workers who choose the birthday‑withdrawal option forfeit the right to withdraw the full FGTS balance upon dismissal without cause, receiving only the 40 % severance penalty.
