Brazil's FGTS Council to set profit distribution amid parliamentary criticism

The FGTS Curator Council will meet on July 28 to decide what percentage of the fund’s 2025 profit – projected to exceed R$ 13.5 billion – will be distributed to workers. The final distribution is expected to be made by the end of August, following the Ministry of Labor’s proposal. In 2025, workers received R$ 12.9 billion, representing 95% of the previous year’s profit.

Separately, the Chamber of Deputies’ Labor Committee will hold a debate on the FGTS balance release, led by Deputy Daniel Almeida. Lawmakers expressed concern that expanding withdrawal options could undermine the fund’s financial health and its role in financing housing, sanitation and urban infrastructure projects. The fund now holds more than 110 million accounts and about R$ 800 billion in assets.
