Brazil's FGTS Fund to Distribute R$13 Billion to 138 Million Workers

The Conselho Curador do Fundo de Garantia do Tempo de Serviço (FGTS) approved on 28 July 2026 the distribution of roughly R$13.04 billion – about 89 % of the fund’s 2025 profit of R$14.65 billion – to the 138.2 million workers who held a positive balance in their FGTS accounts on 31 December 2025.

The credit will be deposited automatically by Caixa Econômica Federal into each eligible account. The amount each worker receives is proportional to the balance on the cut‑off date, calculated with a factor of 0.01868341 (approximately 1.87 % of the balance). Deposits must be completed by 31 August 2026, after which workers can view the credit via the FGTS app, Internet Banking or Caixa branches.

With the profit share, the total return on FGTS accounts will rise to 6.9 %, surpassing the 2025 IPCA inflation rate of 4.26 % by 2.53 percentage points. The credited funds remain subject to existing withdrawal rules and can only be accessed in situations such as retirement, dismissal without cause, home‑purchase financing, severe illness, or other legally prescribed cases.
