Brazil's FGV survey finds 51% see job search as difficult

A survey by the Institute of Economics of the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV Ibre) covering the quarter ended May 2026 shows that 51.2% of respondents consider it difficult or very difficult to obtain a job, while 25.5% say it is easy or very easy – the highest level recorded since the series began in 2025. Another 23.3% view the situation as normal.

When asked about the outlook for the next six months, 37% expect the labour market to worsen or worsen sharply, 33.3% anticipate stability, and 29.6% foresee improvement. Economist Rodolpho Tobler noted that current perceptions indicate a still‑heated market, but people are becoming increasingly cautious about future conditions. The survey also highlights historically low unemployment rates alongside a slowdown in hiring activity.

These findings are part of the 12th edition of the Indicators of Quality of Work, derived from the FGV Ibre Labour Market Survey, which continuously monitors Brazilian workers’ views on employment conditions.
