Brazil's fire prevention education reaches thousands in Distrito Federal and Amazonas

In Brazlândia, the Federal District, authorities held the seventh edition of the Educational Blitz for Forest Fire Prevention. The event, organized by the state government and the Federal Highway Police, targeted motorists along the DF‑080 corridor and involved 26 fifth‑grade students from a local preschool to spread the message. Governor Celina Leão and Environment Secretary Rafael Santana highlighted the need to stop burning waste and pruning residues, which are the main causes of forest fires in the region.

Meanwhile, the Amazon state fire brigade's Environmental Education Plan reached 13,460 participants in June, including 13,233 students and 227 volunteers across 12 municipalities. The program delivered 131 awareness talks focused on preventing wildfires and trained local volunteers to act as first responders. Commandant Cel Orleilso Muniz emphasized the initiative’s role in building resilience during the dry season and fostering responsible burning practices among rural and Indigenous communities.
