Brazil's Foreign Ministry claim of US military threat to South America refuted by scholar

The Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Itamaraty) warned of a possible United States military action against a democracy in South America. Political scientist Fernando Schüler told Rádio Bandeirantes that there is no historical record of such a U.S. intervention, noting only diplomatic, economic and covert Cold‑War operations. Schüler called the ministry’s statement “irresponsible and disastrous” and said it lacked any public evidence. The warning followed a communiqué from Chancellor Mauro Vieira that mentioned a supposed risk of U.S. military involvement.
