Brazil's Generation Z Leads Shift in Dairy Consumption

A study published in the Anuário Leite by Embrapa Gado de Leite found that Brazil's Generation Z (people aged 12‑26) is now the largest consumer of dairy products in the country. While traditional plain milk has declined, flavored variants dominate, with chocolate‑flavored milk accounting for almost half of the group's fluid‑milk choices. Young consumers increasingly incorporate milk into cold coffees, protein shakes, smoothies, yogurts and cheeses, seeking convenience and taste.

Generation Z represents about 22% of Brazil's population, according to IBGE, giving the cohort significant market influence. The shift is prompting dairy producers to adapt product lines and marketing strategies to meet the demand for ready‑to‑drink and mixed‑use dairy formats.

The findings highlight a broader transformation in youth food habits rather than a rejection of dairy, underscoring the sector's continued nutritional relevance while reshaping consumption patterns across the Brazilian market.
