Brazil's Grande Otelo Film Awards 2026 ends in tie for Best Film
The 25th Prêmio Grande Otelo ceremony took place on 4 August 2026 at Rio de Janeiro’s Theatro Municipal. It was hosted by Marieta Severo and her daughter Silvia Buarque, with a special performance by Ney Matogrosso. The top prize, Best Film, resulted in a tie between Kleber Mendonça Filho’s "O Agente Secreto" and Marianna Brennand’s "Manas".
"Homem com H" won the Popular Vote Best Film award and swept several technical categories, including Best Actor (Jesuíta Barbosa), Best Costume, Best Makeup, Best Sound and Best Score. Dira Paes received Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Manas". Technical honors went to "O Agente Secreto" for Best Cinematography, Art Direction and Visual Effects, with Thales Junqueira winning Best Art Direction. A total of 32 awards were presented across feature, documentary, short and animation categories.
The event also featured tributes to late producer Luiz Carlos Barreto and a permanent inclusion of the award in Rio’s official calendar. Actors such as Rodrigo Santoro praised the current “unique moment” for Brazilian cinema, while Gloria Pires debuted as a director with the film "Sexa".
