Brazil's Habib’s restaurant group secures 60‑day shield from creditors

Grupo Gennius, the holding company that controls Brazil's Habib’s chain along with Ragazzo, Mita, Tendall Grill and other brands, faces a consolidated debt of roughly R$312.4 million. On 1 July, Judge Jomar Juarez Amorim of São Paulo's 1st Bankruptcy Court granted a precautionary injunction that suspends all creditor lawsuits and execution actions against the group's 174 companies for 60 days, effective until early September.

The measure is intended to give the conglomerate time to negotiate its liabilities through a mediation process at the Centro Judiciário de Solução de Conflitos e Cidadania (CEJUSC). While the injunction protects the companies from new legal actions, it does not release receivables or guarantee‑backed investments, and creditors must continue supplying essential inputs, receiving cash payment at the time of delivery. All Habib’s restaurants remain open and continue serving customers during the period.
