Brazil's hamburger market faces price hikes amid free‑burger promo
On May 28, World Hamburger Day, the Brazilian themed fast‑food chain Mundo Animal launched a promotion offering a free burger to any customer whose name is "Leonel" who presents a photo ID. The campaign, centred on the chain’s lion mascot, is intended to boost family engagement and drive traffic on the holiday.
At the same time, a Neogrid survey of the Brazilian food sector shows that the cost of hamburger ingredients has risen sharply over the past year. Beef cuts such as acém and costela increased by 14.3% and 12.9% respectively, while the price of brioche buns rose 13.3% and potatoes jumped 20.2%. Overall, these increases have pushed the price of a typical beef hamburger up about 6.2%, with smaller rises for pork, mixed, chicken and other variants.
