Brazil's Health Ministry holds regional Hackathon SUS to scout cancer‑fighting startup solutions

The Ministry of Health staged the regional phase of the "Hackathon SUS – Technological Challenge for the Unified Health System" on July 15‑16 in Brasília’s Hospital Universitário de Brasília. The event gathered six startup teams from the Centre‑West and North regions for technical visits to the oncology unit, lectures, personalized training and mentoring.

Deputy secretary Eduardo Jorge Valadares Oliveira stressed that participating technologies must meet safety, efficacy, cost‑effectiveness and regulatory standards. Judges, including Davi Uemoto of Abraidi and oncologist Gustavo Duarte, highlighted the goal of expanding access, ensuring favorable clinical outcomes and preserving patient dignity. The hackathon, coordinated by the Ministry with partners such as MDIC, ANVISA, SEBRAE and PAHO, aims to identify and award innovations that can be deployed within Brazil’s public‑health system to combat cancer.
