Brazil's Ibama auctions seized cattle and closes illegal dredge shipyard in Amazon

Ibama held its first 2024 auction of cattle seized from an illegally deforested area near Uruará, Pará. The virtual sale on 12 May offered 213 bulls and two mules, raising R$607,100, which will remain in a judicial account pending a court decision on its use. The auction is part of Operation Carne Fria 2025, aimed at stopping the conversion of Amazon forest to pasture and deterring profit from illegal livestock.

On 26 June, the Federal Police and Ibama raided a clandestine shipyard in Manaus that was constructing a drag and related equipment for illegal gold mining in riverine areas. The site lacked required environmental licences, and investigators confiscated metal structures, pipelines and hydraulic components. The operation continues to identify those responsible, who could face charges for environmental crimes and unauthorized mineral extraction.
