Brazil's INSS Begins Mass Refunds for Unauthorized Pension Deductions
The Instituto Nacional de Segurança Social (INSS) announced that the deadline to contest unauthorized association fee deductions from pensions ends on Saturday, June 20. Under a court‑approved extrajudicial agreement, the institute will start repaying the deducted amounts, having already returned more than 3.2 billion reais to 4.7 million insured individuals nationwide.
Beneficiaries who had deductions between March 2020 and March 2025 can verify their situation via the Meu INSS app or website, file an objection, and, if the association does not respond or provides invalid documentation, they may automatically join the reimbursement scheme. Approved refunds will be deposited into recipients' bank accounts within three business days. The INSS warned against scams, stating it never sends links, SMS requests, or charges fees for the refunds.
