INSS deadline for contesting unauthorized benefit deductions ends Saturday
Retirees and pensioners must submit a contest by Saturday, 20 May, if they have had unauthorised associative fees deducted from their INSS benefits. Contesting the deductions is required to join the extrajudicial repayment agreement that the federal government created to speed up refunds.
The agreement was approved by Supreme Court minister Dias Toffoli on 3 July 2025, allowing the INSS to start reimbursements on 24 July. To date the government has returned more than R$ 3.2 billion to roughly 4.7 million beneficiaries across Brazil. Once a contest is accepted, the corrected amount is transferred to the beneficiary’s bank account within three business days. Those who miss the deadline may still join the agreement if their contest is later approved.
Beneficiaries can file a contest through the Meu INSS app or website, by calling the 135 hotline, or at post office branches. The Ministry of Social Security warned that the INSS will never request personal data via links or SMS, will not charge fees, and all official communication occurs only through the Meu INSS channels, the gov.br /inss site, the 135 line, or the post office.
