Brazil's INSS implements AI‑driven verification rule and May payment schedule for low‑income retirees
The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) in Brazil issued a new rule effective in May that uses artificial intelligence to cross‑check beneficiaries' data. The system automatically verifies proof of life by searching for recent activity in public databases such as vaccination records, driver’s licence renewals or voting. If no trace is found in the past ten months, the benefit is placed under “blockage analysis” and payments can be suspended after a 30‑ to 60‑day regularisation period. Beneficiaries are urged to update their address, CPF and perform biometric verification via banking ATMs or the Gov.br app to avoid suspension.
On the same month, INSS announced an urgent payment schedule for retirees earning up to a minimum wage (R$ 1,518). Payments for this group are being made on Tuesday, 26 May, based on the final digit of the beneficiary’s card number, with priority given to those over 80 years old. The May run also includes the early disbursement of the 13th‑month salary for more than 35 million insured persons, though recipients of the Continuous Cash Benefit (BPC) and the Lifetime Monthly Income are excluded. Beneficiaries can check their deposits via the Meu INSS app or the 135 call centre.
