INSS launches weekend medical exam mutirão across 18 Brazilian states
The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) will hold a weekend mutirão of medical examinations on Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 July, aiming to serve about 17,800 beneficiaries. The effort covers 47 sites in 18 states plus the Federal District, with additional slots in Bahia (1,596 places across eight municipalities) and Mato Grosso do Sul (45 tele‑medicine slots in three cities). Beneficiaries who already have appointments and have been waiting long are being invited, and most assessments will be conducted via telemedicine for those in remote areas.
The mutirão targets claims for temporary incapacity benefits (formerly sickness aid), permanent disability pensions, and evaluations for the Continuous Provision Benefit (BPC) for people with disabilities. The national backlog of medical‑exam requests has fallen to roughly 391,000, a 68 % drop from the 1.2 million recorded in November 2025, and the average waiting time is about 20 days. The INSS advises beneficiaries to check appointment details through the Meu INSS portal or the 135 free‑call line.
