Brazil's INSS Sets Deadline to Contest Unauthorized Benefit Deductions and Expands Service Slots
The National Institute of Social Security (INSS) announced a nationwide mutirão offering more than 59,000 medical and social assessment slots, mainly in the Northeast, to accelerate approvals for benefits such as temporary disability aid, permanent retirement and the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC). Minister of Social Security Wolney Queiroz attended a weekend BPC mutirão in Caruaru, Pernambuco, providing 600 additional evaluation appointments.
The institute also released the June 2026 payment calendar: deposits for beneficiaries earning the minimum wage will be made between 24 June and 7 July, scheduled by the final digit of the Social Identification Number (NIS). Those receiving higher amounts will start receiving payments on 1 July, with two NIS digits processed each day.
Micro‑entrepreneurs (MEI) can increase their eventual retirement above the minimum by complementing the 5 % DAS contribution with an additional 15 % via a GPS payment (code 1910), allowing contributions up to 20 % of the chosen salary base.
Finally, a deadline of 20 June ends the period for retirees and pensioners to contest unauthorized association discounts. More than 5.5 million beneficiaries have filed complaints; successful contestations enable enrollment in a government restitution agreement, with the process handled through the Meu INSS app, the Gov.br portal, the 135 call center, or authorized post offices.
