Brazil's INSS retirees deadline for refund claims ends June 20

Retirees and pensioners of Brazil's Instituto Nacional do Seguro Social (INSS) must submit contestations of unauthorized associative fee deductions by Saturday, 20 June. The challenge can be made through the Meu INSS app or website, at post‑office branches, or via the 135 telephone service (limited on 19 June due to a Brazil‑Haiti football match).

The government has already refunded more than R$ 3.2 billion to about 4.7 million beneficiaries who previously disputed such charges, which relate to deductions made between March 2020 and March 2025. After a contestation is registered, the charging entity has 15 working days to reply; if it fails to respond or provides irregular documentation, the system automatically opens the option to accept a reimbursement agreement. Payments are deposited directly into the benefit account within three business days. Minister of Social Security Wolney Queiroz said the administration aims to complete all reimbursements by 20 June, a target set after President Lula’s directive to protect retirees during the ongoing INSS crisis.
