Brazil's INSS deadline for contesting unauthorized benefit deductions ends Saturday

The deadline for retirees and pensioners to contest unauthorized monthly association fees deducted from their INSS benefits ends on Saturday, 20 June 2026. Contestation is mandatory to join the extrajudicial reimbursement agreement approved by STF minister Dias Toffoli on 3 July 2025, which began payouts on 24 July 2025. The Ministry of Social Security reports that more than R$ 3.2 billion has already been returned to 4.7 million people.

Beneficiaries must verify possible deductions via the Meu INSS app, the 135 call centre, or post offices, submit a formal contest, and allow the charging entity up to 15 working days to respond. If the entity does not respond or presents irregular documentation, the system enables automatic enrollment and the corrected amount is deposited within three days. Indigenous people, quilombolas and those over 80 years receive automatic refunds.

After the deadline, those who have already filed a contest and received approval can still enrol in the agreement. Claimants who missed the deadline must pursue judicial action or await a possible new administrative round. The INSS warns against scams that claim the deadline has been reopened or that refunds can be secured for a fee.
