Brazil's INSS suspends payments for 10,000 beneficiaries after agency accreditation glitch

A technical error in Dataprev's payment system led to the improper accreditation of 69 Crefisa agencies, allowing temporary releases of INSS benefits to about 10,000 retirees. The mistake was discovered and the agencies were de‑accredited, prompting the National Institute of Social Security (INSS) to halt further disbursements starting Monday, 25 May.

The INSS said the affected beneficiaries will not suffer any financial loss and that payments made through the de‑accredited agencies will be automatically transferred to other banks. Dataprev confirmed the agencies were activated only after receiving information from INSS. The agency had previously placed Crefisa under a precautionary suspension in August 2025 due to alleged irregularities such as forced account openings and unauthorized portabilities.
