Brazil's June Violet campaign raises awareness against elder abuse in Sobradinho and Arapoti
The Brigada Militar of Sobradinho organized meetings in the Maieron and Vera Cruz neighborhoods and a session in Lagoão, bringing together third‑age groups such as São José, Vida Ativa and União Faz a Força. The events featured discussion circles and guidance on the different forms of elder violence, legal rights under the Estatuto da Pessoa Idosa, and reporting channels for neglect, abandonment, financial exploitation, physical and psychological abuse.
In Arapoti, a walk for the June Violet campaign took place under the theme “Tecendo Laços, Protegendo Histórias”. Mayor Irani Barros, council president Maicon Pot and councilwoman Maria Olívia attended, alongside the municipal social assistance team, residents of all ages, the Lar Recanto do Idoso elderly home and local school groups, emphasizing intergenerational responsibility for protecting older persons.
