Brazil seeks extradition of ex‑deputy Carla Zambelli from Italy

The request, submitted on 25 June 2026, cites the extradition treaty between Brazil and Italy and international criminal‑cooperation norms. It presents the Supreme Federal Court’s (STF) convictions of Zambelli – five years and three months for illegal firearm possession and illegal coercion, and a ten‑year sentence for a 2023 hack of the National Council of Justice’s electronic system – and offers procedural guarantees, including detention in the Federal Women’s Prison and regular reporting to Italian authorities.
