Brazil's Landscape and Resources Mapped by Satellite and ISS Imaging

High‑resolution photographs taken from the International Space Station reveal Brazil's vast forests, rivers and coastlines, highlighting the country's biodiversity and the environmental challenges it faces. Russian cosmonaut Oleg Artemiev documented the terrain, providing visual data that supports scientific research and public awareness.

Satellite imagery is also being applied across Brazil to monitor more than 66 million hectares of farmland and forest. The technology enables large‑scale crop monitoring, irrigation optimization, early detection of disease, pest outbreaks and stress, as well as tracking forest health, deforestation, illegal logging and wildfires. In the mining sector, satellite data assists with site supervision, mineral detection and environmental compliance, while infrastructure planners use it for land‑use management.

These applications are transforming resource management, supporting sustainable agriculture, protecting ecosystems and improving compliance with environmental regulations throughout the country.
