Delta Aquáridas meteor shower peaks across Brazil
The annual Delta Aquáridas do Sul meteor shower reaches its peak between the night of July 30 and the early hours of July 31, with scientists estimating up to 25 meteors per hour under optimal conditions. The Brazilian Space Agency (AEB) and the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) advise observers to find dark locations away from city lights and to face the constellation Aquarius, which rises around 21 h and is highest near 02 h. Astronomer Marcelo De Cicco of the Sociedade Brasileira de Astronomia explains that, despite a bright near‑full Moon, the brightest meteors should remain visible. The best viewing windows are from about 01:30 h to 02:00 h, especially in the North and Northeast regions where the radiant appears higher in the sky. No telescopes are required; a clear, dark horizon and patience are sufficient to enjoy the display, which also includes a smaller contribution from the Alfa Capricornídeos shower.
