Brazil's Law Schools Graduate Over 650,000 Students Annually

The 2024 Higher Education Census released by the Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira (Inep) shows that law is among the Brazilian degree programmes with the highest number of graduates, topping presencial enrolments with more than 650,000 students.

The large influx of new lawyers intensifies competition in the early years of practice. Many recent graduates lack practical experience, prompting them to seek work as legal correspondents – professionals who perform tasks such as diligences, hearings and protocol services for law firms in other locations. Digital platforms have expanded access to these assignments nationwide.

Priscila Pinheiro, lawyer and CEO of Correspondente Dinâmico, says the main hurdle for new lawyers is the gap between theory and practice. She notes that correspondence work lets them earn income, gain hands‑on experience and build professional networks before establishing their own client base. Co‑founder Gian Nunes adds that digitalisation is creating new models of legal service delivery, offering additional opportunities despite market saturation.
