Brazil's Liberal Party grapples with women's wing funding and policy agenda

A federal deputy, Coronel Fernanda of Mato Grosso, met in Brasília with Senator Flávio Bolsonaro and other right‑wing female leaders to discuss policy proposals for the Liberal Party’s upcoming presidential campaign. She advocated for nationwide land regularisation, better access to credit for women, stronger measures against domestic violence and femicide, and increased female participation in politics, citing Mato Grosso’s high femicide rates.

Separately, former first lady Michelle Bolsonaro stepped down from leading the party’s women’s sector (PL Mulher). The unit had a budget of R$ 11 million for 2026, allocated by party leader Valdemar Costa Neto. While some legislators fear the funding could dry up, Valdemar said the budget might even rise next year, anticipating more women elected in the October vote.
