Brazil's Mauro Vieira demands end to Milei's aggressions to normalize relations
Brazilian Foreign Minister Mauro Vieira has called on Argentine President Javier Milei to immediately cease "aggressions" against President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Brazilian institutions to normalize bilateral relations. In an interview with the Argentine newspaper Clarín, Vieira dismissed claims made by Milei that the Brazilian government financed an international campaign against Argentina, labeling such assertions as "totally false." He also addressed tensions with the United States, arguing that the public manner in which Washington consulted Brazil regarding an ambassadorial appointment violated the Vienna Convention.
Vieira emphasized that the relationship between Brazil and Argentina is "primordial" and transcends the current administrations. He noted that the full restoration of diplomatic representation, including the return of ambassadors to their respective posts, depends on a gesture of reciprocity and the end of hostile rhetoric from the Argentine government.
