Brazil's May Yellow campaign stages vehicle‑rescue simulations in Rio and Minas Gerais

As part of the national "Maio Amarelo" (May Yellow) road‑safety campaign, Brazil held two public vehicle‑rescue simulations this week.

On 25 May, the Rio de Janeiro Military Fire Corps staged an operational rescue drill in the centre of Itaguaí, drawing hundreds of spectators. The exercise, coordinated by the 10th Fire Group and local fire detachments, showcased techniques such as anchoring, vehicle cutting, extrication and spinal‑precaution transport, and included simulated ambulance treatment. Local officials, police, the municipal guard and SAMU participated, underscoring integrated emergency response.

Earlier, on 20 May, the Minas Gerais State Traffic Department and Military Fire Corps performed a similar drill at Praça da Liberdade in Belo Horizonte. The demonstration featured two victims—one trapped in a car after colliding with a pole and another ejected for not wearing a seat‑belt—highlighting rescue procedures, pre‑hospital care, traffic control and the importance of responsible driving. Police, municipal guard, BHTrans, a university nursing faculty and a private concessionary also took part.

Both events aimed to raise public awareness of traffic‑accident prevention, stress safe‑driving practices and demonstrate the coordinated effort of emergency services across the country.
