MCTI opens scientific immersion applications for female students
The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) has opened applications for the ‘Imersão Científica 2027’ project through the Futuras Cientistas Program. The initiative offers 470 free spots for female students from public state schools and female teachers to visit major research and technological development centers across Brazil.
To promote gender equity in STEM fields, the program includes affirmative action quotas: 30% for Black, mixed-race, Indigenous, or Quilombola candidates, 5% for people with disabilities, and 5% for transgender, travesti, and intersex women. The immersion will take place from January 4 to January 29, 2027, consisting of 80 hours of activities over 20 working days. Applications are open until October 26 via the internet.
In related educational news, the Ministry of Education (MEC) held a preparatory session for 2,000 students in Minas Gerais for the Enem 2026 exam. Additionally, educational data from the Ribeirão Preto metropolitan region highlights ongoing challenges in reducing educational inequality, particularly in mathematics performance among municipal schools.
