Brazil's Metalworkers Union and Supreme Labor Court Hold Forum on Strengthening Collective Bargaining
On Thursday, 30 May, the Sindicato dos Metalúrgicos do ABC hosted a panel titled “The importance of collective bargaining in labor relations” at its headquarters in São Bernardo do Campo. The event brought together ministers of the Tribunal Superior do Trabalho (TST), representatives of the regional labor courts, the Ministério Público do Trabalho, the International Labour Organization (ILO), Volkswagen, and union leaders.
Key participants included union president Wellington Damasceno, TST ministers Augusto César Leite, Maurício Godinho Delgado and Delaíde Arantes, TRT‑2 president Valdir Florindo, judge Bianca Bastos, prosecutor Viviann Brito Mattos, ILO scholar Sandro Lunardi, and Volkswagen labour‑relations manager Lucas Aparecido Brun. Discussions focused on contemporary challenges in labor relations, the role of collective bargaining as a balance between capital and workers, and the need for ongoing dialogue among unions, companies and state institutions, especially as international conflicts affect the economy.
