Brazil's Ministry of Defense faces potential restructuring

Both the administration of Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and the campaign of Flávio Bolsonaro anticipate a restructuring of the Brazilian Ministry of Defense following the upcoming elections. A primary objective for both sides is to improve interoperability between the Army, Navy, and Air Force, which currently lacks integrated command, communication, and weaponry systems.

Proposed reforms include unifying the procurement of military materials to restrict the autonomy of individual branches in negotiating large contracts. Additionally, there are plans to consolidate separate foreign purchasing offices and parliamentary advisory teams. Another potential change involves the interim leadership of the Ministry; currently, a rotating system among military commanders is used during the Minister's absence, whereas other ministries utilize a Secretary-General.
