Brazil's Ministry of Education adds free Korean language course
The Brazilian Ministry of Education (MEC) has expanded its free language learning platform, MEC Idiomas, to include Korean. This addition follows a surge in interest in Korean culture, including K-pop and K-dramas, among the Brazilian public.
As the first language on the platform to use a non-Latin writing system, the course features dedicated modules for learning Hangul, the Korean alphabet. Students can access interactive tools to learn the 24 basic letters, practice writing strokes, and use romanization to understand pronunciation. The curriculum includes video lessons, listening exercises, and conversational practice designed to simulate real-life situations.
Prior to this update, MEC Idiomas offered only English and Spanish, serving over 774,000 active enrollments. Data shows that 60.5% of the platform's users are between the ages of 18 and 34.
