Brazil's Ministry of Management and Innovation Sets 2026 Public‑Sector Holiday Schedule

The Ministry of Management and Innovation in Public Services (MGI) issued a decree on 7 December 2026 establishing the holiday recess for federal public servants, employees, temporary contractors and interns. The first recess runs from 21 to 25 December 2026 and the second from 28 December 2026 to 1 January 2027.

Agencies must organize rotating shifts to keep essential services operating. Hours not worked during the recess must be compensated between 1 October 2026 and 31 May 2027. Non‑PGD staff may adjust daily schedules, while participants in the Program of Management and Performance (PGD) must meet plan deliverables. Compensation is limited to two hours per day for staff and one hour for interns; failure to fully compensate results in a proportional salary deduction. Workers who decline the recess must maintain their regular schedule.
