Brazil's Ministry of Ports and Airports announces new infrastructure project portfolio

The Brazilian Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) is developing a new portfolio of projects aimed at increasing capacity and improving the efficiency of the nation's port infrastructure. Minister Tomé Franca highlighted this strategy during the Sul Export 2026 event, emphasizing the need for integration between the public sector and private initiatives.

Key regional initiatives include modernizing the Paranaguá complex in Paraná through the implementation of the 'Moegão' East Pier to expand cargo reception. In Rio Grande do Sul, efforts are focused on interventions at the Port of Rio Grande and restoring navigation capacity in waterways impacted by the 2024 floods. In Santa Catarina, the agenda targets improvements to access, navigation safety, and infrastructure for the Imbituba, Itajaí, and São Francisco do Sul complexes.

To support long-term planning, the ministry has introduced the Port Saturation Monitoring (MSP) tool. This system is designed to identify capacity bottlenecks in ports, private-use terminals, and land or water access points by comparing installed capacity against projected demand.
