Renan Santos officially nominated as presidential candidate by Brazil's Missão party

On 20 July 2026 the newly registered Partido Missão announced Renan Santos as its presidential candidate, moving its national convention forward from 1 August to allow a security‑focused rollout. The party, born out of the Movimento Brasil Livre (MBL) and first registered with the Superior Electoral Court in November 2025, said the change was advised after Santos received intimidation threats from criminal factions in Ceará, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. Federal police protection will be provided for the candidate and his running‑mate, reserve lieutenant‑colonel Aroldo Medina. Missão plans a public event on 1 August to unveil its “Livro Amarelo” programme, which pledges a “war on organized crime”, the adoption of the “enemy penal law” framework, fiscal tightening through a transition‑PEC, administrative reform and infrastructure investment. The Partido Democrático Trabalhista (PDT) reiterated its support for incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva. The announcement marks Missão’s first participation in a presidential race and sets the stage for its policy agenda ahead of the 2026 elections.
