Brazil's motorcycle fleet expands 46.8% over ten years, reaching 38 million units
Data from the Associação Brasileira dos Fabricantes de Motocicletas (Abraciclo) show that Brazil's motorcycle fleet grew 46.8% between 2017 and the first half of 2026, rising from roughly 26.1 million vehicles to about 38.3 million. In the same period, the number of drivers licensed in category A (two‑ or three‑wheel vehicles) increased 39%, from 30.7 million to 42.7 million.
Alagoas recorded the steepest rise in motorcycle licences, especially among women, whose category A licences jumped 233.6%; male licences in the state grew 72.9%. Amazonas ranked second in overall licensing growth. The domestic motorcycle industry produces around two million units annually, largely in the Manaus industrial pole, employing 21.8 thousand workers directly and supporting more than 154 thousand jobs nationwide. Abraciclo attributes the fleet surge to the search for affordable transport and the growth of gig‑economy delivery work, while warning that safety measures—including traffic education, vehicle maintenance and stricter law enforcement—are needed to curb accidents.
