Brazil's MST delivers 7.6 tons of medicines to Cuba

The Brazilian Landless Workers’ Movement (Movimento dos Trabalhadores Rurais Sem Terra, MST) delivered more than 7.6 tons of medicines, primarily antibiotics, to the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana on 5 August 2026. The shipment is part of the permanent “Aid to Cuba” campaign launched in 2025, which mobilises Brazilian grassroots groups, public figures and donors to collect and send medical supplies to the island.

MST activists Marcelo Durao and Francisco Santos de Sousa said the donation continues a history of solidarity, noting that the United States’ sanctions have created severe shortages in Cuba’s health system. Cuban health officials, including sub‑director Reynaldo Denis de Armas, praised the aid as “very significant” for maintaining high‑complexity care. The campaign follows earlier deliveries, such as a 4.6‑ton shipment after Hurricane Melissa, and MST affirmed that this will not be the last donation.

The effort underscores Brazil‑Cuba solidarity amid the ongoing U.S. embargo, which the MST describes as a form of war against the Cuban people.
