Brazil's MST delivers over 7.5 tons of medicines to Cuba amid health crisis

The Brazilian Landless Workers' Movement (MST) handed over more than 7.6 tons of medicines, chiefly essential antibiotics, to Havana’s Hospital Hermanos Ameijeiras on 5 May. The shipment was organized through the MST’s permanent “Ajude Cuba” campaign, launched in 2025, and coordinated on the ground by Marcelo Durão and national director Gene Santos.

Cuban health officials welcomed the aid, with sub‑director Reynaldo Denis de Armas calling it “a very significant help at this moment.” The medicines will be distributed across several Cuban health institutions. MST representatives stressed that the donation is part of an ongoing solidarity effort and not the last one. The delivery follows earlier MST aid, including a 4.6‑ton shipment after Hurricane Melissa in late 2025, and comes as Cuba endures a deep energy and medical shortage linked to the U.S. embargo.

Other groups, such as the Spanish NGO Open Arms and the Convoy Nuestra América, have also sent humanitarian supplies to the island in recent months.
