Brazil's Museu Aeroespacial Paulista opens at São Paulo's Campo de Marte
The Brazilian Air Force inaugurated the Museu Aeroespacial Paulista (MAPA) at Campo de Marte Airport in São Paulo. The museum occupies about 100,000 m² within the Parque de Material Aeronáutico and will preserve and display civilian and military aviation history, including helmets, miniature models, a 14‑Bis replica, historic photographs and a mural by Gabriel Menezes that links Santos‑Dumont, the 14‑Bis, a P‑47, an Embraer E2, an F‑39 Gripen and a VTOL concept. Public areas include Hangars 01 and 05, which host aircraft ranging from transport planes to fighters and trainers, and an outdoor “Safari” where visitors can approach historic planes such as a Messerschmitt Bf 109, a Supermarine Spitfire and a MiG‑21. The project is led by Major‑Brigadier Rodrigo Fernandes Santos, fulfilling an earlier Air Force initiative. On 22 July, a U.S. Navy Grumman C‑2A Greyhound (BuNo 162174) landed at Campo de Marte and will become part of MAPA’s collection after an unscheduled stop at Galeão Base. MAPA is also set to receive donated Saab J‑35 Draken and J‑37 Viggen fighters, marking the first public display of a Viggen outside Europe.
