Brazil's Museums Mark Milestones in Ouro Preto and Recife
The Museu da Inconfidência in Ouro Preto commemorated its 82nd anniversary on 11 August with a month‑long program of free exhibitions, workshops and guided visits. The highlight was the opening of the exhibition “O Livro de Tiradentes – ideias, evidências e memória,” showcasing a French‑language volume containing annotations attributed to Joaquim José da Silva Xavier (Tiradentes) after forensic analysis by the Federal Police.
In Recife, the Oficina Francisco Brennand opened the artist’s historic atelier to the public for the first time. The restored space displays around 17 000 items, including personal papers, photographs and works never before shown, offering insight into Brennand’s creative process. The launch coincided with the arrival of the itinerant segment of the 36th São Paulo Biennial, returning to the city after 15 years.
