Brazil's National Council of Justice reviews victim protection measures
The National Council of Justice (CNJ) is currently discussing measures for the prevention, identification, and combat of gender-based procedural violence. This discussion follows the implementation of the Mariana Ferrer Law (Law No. 14.245/2021), which established legal limits to prevent practices that undermine the dignity of victims and witnesses during judicial proceedings.
The International Forum of Victims' Rights (INTERVID) has intervened in the process as an interested third party, providing technical and academic contributions to improve the proposed recommendations. The goal is to address revictimization, which can occur through undue exposure, intimidation, or the misuse of procedural instruments throughout the legal process.
