Brazil's National Justice Council launches environmental rulings contest and anti‑harassment resolution

The National Justice Council (CNJ) of Brazil issued an edital for the II National Contest of Interlocutory Decisions, Sentences and Judgments on the Environment. Registrations are open until 20 September, and the competition will reward judicial acts that protect and promote environmental rights across categories such as climate change, water resources, and illicit environmental crime. Winners will receive certificates and their decisions will be published on the CNJ website.

In a separate measure, CNJ updated its regulatory framework with Resolution 671, amending Resolution 351/2020. The new rule expands prevention and response mechanisms for moral and sexual harassment and discrimination within the judiciary, covering judges, staff, interns, contractors and court personnel. It defines reporting procedures, establishes a Week of Combating Harassment, and guarantees protection against retaliation for reporters, victims and witnesses.
